Scripture Union International highlights the Biblical mandate to care for creation

Date of release: 11/05/2026

Scripture Union International (SUI) is strengthening its focus on Creation Care as it helps children and young people explore the Bible and grow in their Christian faith.

Building on a partnership with British and Foreign Bible Society and United Bible Societies and facilitated by A Rocha International – Christian nature conservation experts – Scripture Union (SU) is making Creation Care a key focus for its holistic ministry with children and young people.

International Director, Monika Kuschmierz, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside experts in the field and other biblically focused organisations on this vital issue of Creation Care. Following a joint consultation last year, when we explored what the Bible says about caring for God’s world, we have agreed on a biblical mandate for our focus on Creation Care. We recognise that looking after God’s world is a responsibility laid out in Scripture and must be part of the conversations and activities we have with children and young people across the world.”

According to Monika, the focus on Creation Care, was requested by the young ambassadors who attended the SU Global Assembly in 2024 as something for Scripture Union to explore and now SUI is picking this up.

“Listening to their presentations and their concerns, we could see that this is a key issue for young people and is one of the areas they want to explore as they engage with the Bible.”

Several Scripture Union movements are already working on projects and camps that help children and young people care for the environment or engage more deeply with it.

SUI hopes to facilitate further engagement with environmental issues, as it works to share God’s Big Story with children, young people and families across more than 120 countries.

Monika said: “Scripture Union is uniquely placed to walk alongside young people as they wrestle with this issue. We believe that rooted in God’s Word and strengthened through collaboration with experts and global partners, Creation Care is becoming an important part of Scripture Union’s mission to disciple children and young people holistically. Because caring for creation is part of caring for what God has entrusted to us.”

About Scripture Union

Scripture Union is a global charity known for discipling children and youth, and helping people of all ages meet God through the Bible and prayer. From simple beginnings in the front room of a house in London, where a young office worker helped children understand the Bible in a way that was relevant and appropriate to them, SU has grown into an international movement operating in more than 120 countries.

Scripture Union remains committed to fulfilling its mission to help children come to know God through the Bible and it does this across the world through indigenous leadership and specialist programs and ministries, carefully designed to fit the context of each country and culture.
